At Birchwood Dental Practice our dentists, dental nurses, dental hygienists and reception staff will always aim to provide a high standard of care and service for patients.

Dental Surgeons
Dr Ioannis Ziounas

Dr Ioannis qualified in Russia in 2001 and returned to Athens to serve his military
duty. He worked at the Naval and Air Force Hospital in Athens for three years where
he developed his interest in implantology and restorative dentistry.
He has been trained by leading international names in the fields of implantology in
the UK, Sweden, US, Brazil and France. In 2011 he gained a clinical Masters degree
in Implant Dentistry from the University of Manchester where he vastly developed
his experience in dental implants, sinus augmentation and advanced bone grafting
techniques.
In 2018 Ioannis and his business partner, Dr Anestis Lefkopoulos, took over Birchwood Dental Practice with the aim to bring new advanced treatments in the field of Implantology and restorative dentistry. He now resides in Greece with his family but is very much involved in the day to day running of the practice through contact with Dr Lefkopoulos and the management team. Providing high quality dental care is at the forefront of all Dr Ziounas’ decision making regarding the practice.

Dr Anestis Lefkopoulos

Dr Anestis Lefkopoulos was born and grew up in Athens, Greece. He studied to
become a dentist at Dental School of Athens and acquired his degree in 2006.
Immediately afterwards, he fulfilled his military service, offering dental services at a
military dental clinic on the island of Lesvos.
In 2007 he moved to the UK where he initially practiced in a private dental clinic. In
2011 he completed his postgraduate studies in Dental Implants at the University of
Manchester and obtained his MSc in Dental Implantology (Dental Specialties). In
2009, he actively participated in head and neck anatomy programs at the University
of Lille in France. In 2012 he participated in the International Postgraduate Dental
Implant Program in Sao Paolo, Brazil and expanded his knowledge of dental
implants, sinus lifts and advanced bone augmentation techniques.
In 2018 , he and his business partner, Dr Ioannis Ziounas, acquired Birchwood
Dental Practice and introduced a variety of advanced cosmetic and implant treatments. Anestis now resides back in Greece with his family but he is ever present and involved with the running of the practice through daily communication with management staff.

Vicki Hogan
Practice Manager, Registered Dental Nurse

Vicki has worked solely for Birchwood Dental Practice for over 30 years. Starting out
as an apprentice dental nurse, she has worked diligently and now leads the team in
her role as Practice Manager.
Vicki believes strongly in putting the patients’ interests first, in all aspects of
dentistry. She has seen many changes over the years but always prides herself on
providing the best care possible.
Vicki keeps updated with the ever changing legislations regarding NHS dentistry
and even puts her scrubs on from time to time to help out nursing and keep her
chairside skills up to date. She is a loyal, caring manager and no problem is too
small. Her door is always open.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Looking after the patients who Vicki has known fo a
long time.
Hobbies outside of work – Walking the dog, Socialising, Dining out.
Katie Garrod
Assistant Practice Manager, Lead Decontamination Nurse

Katie has been a Dental Nurse for 14 years. She has worked at numerous practices
over the years but has a found her true passion with Birchwood Dental Practice and
has been Assistant Manager and Lead Decontamination Nurse here for 5 years.
Katie enjoys all aspects of dentistry and likes to help out wherever she can. She
assists Vicki, the Practice Manager, 3 days a week where she updates policies,
completes rotas and manages the daily runnings of the dental nurses. On occasion,
Katie still enjoys getting in surgery and nursing.
Katie believes greatly in a high standard of patient care and infection control so that
the best dental care is always provided for our patients.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Working with a great team who look after each
other.
Hobbies outside of work – Spending time with family, Socialising, Netflix, Travelling
Dr Amy Scanlon

Dr Scanlon qualified from the University of Sheffield. She has since worked in
Community dental services where she trained in sedation and continues to do so now alongside working here at Birchwood Dental Practice.
Dr Scanlon has become a fantastic addition to our team. Her experience in working with nervous and vulnerable children and adults ensures that all our patients feel relaxed in her care.
Dr Scanlon qualified in Invisalign due to her keen interest in minimally invasive
aesthetic dentistry. She enjoys giving patients the option to have the smile they’ve always dreamed of. She also has a keen interest in oral surgery and enjoys carrying out surgical extractions.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Extracting teeth. Dr Scanlon enjoys the challenge of removing difficult teeth and making the patient pain free again.
Hobbies outside of work – Running Marathons, Socialising with friends, Skiing
Dr Eva Nikolou

Dr Nikolou joined us from Greece because she wanted experience working in the NHS. She worked for over 6 months in a dental centre in the Hellenic Navy where she gained a good knowledge of all aspects of general dentistry and showed a high level of devotion to treating patients.
Her caring and gentle manner makes her a great listener and patients feel at ease in her care.

Chike Enunwa

Growing up and qualifying as a dentist in Nigeria, Dr Enunwa moved to the UK
where he has worked at numerous dental practice across England and Scotland
before settling in his part time position here at Birchwood Dental Practice.
Dr Enunwa has over 13 years experience working in the NHS and his hardworking
and focused attitude towards dentistry enables him to provide the best care for our
patients.
Dr Enunwa prides himself on his caring nature and great communication skills,
allowing the patient to be out at ease in his care.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Cosmetic work, restoring patients to their perfect
smile.
Hobbies outside of work – Family time, Church, Padel, Meals out with family.
Bara Abdul-Salam

Dr Bara is a dental surgeon with a keen interest in oral surgery, dental implants and
restorative dentistry. He has over 10 years’ experience in head and neck surgery and
restorative dentistry. He qualified as a dental surgeon from the University of Leeds
in 2008 with Honours and Distinction.
Dr Bara has continued his personal development by completing the Cosmetic
Dentistry & Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry course in London as well as solidifying
his surgical abilities in restorative dentistry and oral surgery by completing his
training in dental Implants.
Dr Bara is an extremely caring dentist and is passionate in provide high quality pain
free dentistry, Dr Bara is also trained in offering sedation for nervous patients.
His expertise has led him to being a preferred provider of dental implants and he
continues to research the latest techniques and materials used in this field.

Dr Burhanul-Haq Khan

Dr Khan qualified at the University of Manchester, studied endodontology at the university of Chester and is our in house root canal dentist.
Dr Khan is trained in advanced cosmetic dentistry and currently treats our patients on a private basis. Asides from his clinical work he also professionally teaches hands on courses for dentists.
He has recently completed a year long mastership in biomimetic dentistry at a renowned American Institute so is able to restore broken and decayed teeth using the most advanced techniques and materials by avoiding root canals. Dr Burhan can speak 4 languages and prides himself on his great rapport with both colleagues and patients.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Meeting patients and giving them their confidence back.

Jean Hogan
Receptionist
Jean has been at Birchwood Dental Practice for over 25 years. Jean is the first face
you will see when you come into the practice and it is always a welcoming and
friendly one. Jean knows the majority of our patients and some consider her a
friend. There isn’t much Jean doesn’t know about Birchwood Dental Practice.
Recently Jean has reduced her time here down to two days on reception but you will
still find her here doing the cleaning and making sure everything is in tip top shape
for our patients.
Jean is a massive influence on the staff and we all see her as mother figure.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Having a good old chat with our patients.
Hobbies outside of work – Walking, Spending time with her grandchildren, Dining
out.
Robyn Meredith
Receptionist
Robyn is the youngest member of our team here at Birchwood Dental Practice. She
is just starting out on her journey as a receptionist and is learning all she can from
our senior receptionist (and her Grandmother) Jean.
Robyn enjoys engaging with patients and helping them with any issues.
Alongside reception, Robyn enjoys helping the nursing staff with sterilizing
instruments and keeping areas clean and tidy.
Robyn enjoys being part of a friendly and social team and that shows in her attitude
towards teamwork and patient care.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Working in the decontamination room and ensuring
all instruments are clean and ready to use.

Lindsey Clarke
Qualified Dental Nurse

Lindsey is our longest standing employee here at Birchwood Dental Practice.
Starting out as an apprentice, Lindsey has provided care for our patients for over 35 years.
Although she now works part time, Lindsey is a massive presence amongst our staff and patients and uses her experience and kind nature to guide others to the highest quality of dental care. Lindsey leads a great example for the younger nurses and everyone looks up to her and admires her for her endless dental knowledge and nursing skills.
Lindsey has recently taken on the role of implant nurse at Birchwood Dental
Practice and work alongside our implantologist Dr Bara Abdul – Salam on the
implant team.
Lindsey has learnt almost everything there is to know about Birchwood Dental
Practice over the years, and is a friendly, reassuring face for a lot of our patients

Rhianna Green-Jones
Qualified Dental Nurse
Rhianna is one of our Qualified Dental Nurses. She is a fantastic nurse who is very knowledgeable on the different types of dental treatment and enjoys caring for patients.
As well as working in surgery, Rhianna can be found working on reception and is always on hand to welcome you to our practice.
She is a great all rounder and has taken on additional responsibilities to help the practice run smoothly.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Helping the dentist to give patients’ their smiles back.
Hobbies outside of work – Walking the dog, Socialising with friends, Hiking.
Elena Miller
Qualified Dental Nurse

Elena is one of our qualified dental nurses.
Coming from a dental family background, she has a passion for helping people and
restoring smiles.
Elena has a fantastic friendly manner and will instantly make you feel at ease. No
task is too big for Elena and she will make sure you have the best experience at the
dentist.
Elena works alongside our private dentist as his primary nurse as well as working
with th NHS dentists. She enjoys the variety of treatment she gets to be involved
with.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Seeing happy, satisfied patients when their
treatment is complete.
Hobbies outside of work – Cooking, Enjoying nature walks, Long drives.
Eunice Wang
Apprentice Dental Nurse
Eunice joined our team at Birchwood Dental Practice when she moved into the area and has been a fantastic addition. Her main focus is always on the patient and you can always feel confident that you will be well looked after in her care.
Eunice is very organised and efficient and always manages to have a smile on her face.
Eunice is eager to learn more about all aspects of general dentistry, especially
complex private treatments where smiles are completely transformed. She has taken on the role of implant nurse and works alongside Dr Bara Abdul-Salam on the implant team.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Assisting with private treatments like crowns and
implants and getting amazing results.
Hobbies outside of work – Cooking, Baking, DIY, Crafts, Camping.
Jade Worrall
Qualified Dental Nurse
Jade is one of our qualified dental nurses.
She has a great rapport with the patients and gained a lot of knowledge whilst about
dentistry over the last few years.
Jade puts patient care at the forefront of her dental nursing and is always happy to
help patients feel more at ease.
Jade can also be found welcoming patients into the practice on reception from time
to time. She enjoys helping patients on the phone with their dental issues and getting them seen as quickly as possible.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Airflow procedures. Jade finds it satisfying to see
what a difference it makes on patients’ teeth.
Hobbies outside of work – Socialising with friends and family, going for countryside
walks and spending time with her baby boy.
Robert Edwards
Apprentice Dental Nurse
Robert is quite the character here at Birchwood Dental Practice. His fun, quirky
nature makes him popular amongst the staff.
Robert has begun his journey as an Apprentice Dental Nurse and is showing great
promise, hoping to be qualified early next year.
Robert enjoys learning about all aspects of general dentistry and shows a keen
interest in different dental procedures and equipment. Robert enjoys trying to
problem solve and helping patients get the best care possible.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Robert enjoys doing Composite fillings/bond ups.
Hobbies outside of work – Sculpting, painting, art, swimming and wargaming.
Alana Smith
Apprentice Dental Nurse
Alana is our newest qualified dental nurse. She has worked hard throughout her
training journey and has become a well rounded nurse who puts patient care at the forefront of her work.
Alana enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. Everyday she is becoming more
knowledgeable and confident and loves to help patients feel relaxed whilst in her
care.
Alana’s calm and friendly nature helps her to be a fantastic asset to our team.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Alana loves the fact that everyday is a school day – learning new things every day!
Hobbies outside of work – Shopping, Disney and Socialising.
Darcie Trengove
Apprentice Dental Nurse
Darcie is our newest member here at Birchwood Dental Practice. She has started her
journey in dentistry but has already shown so much promise and has a fantastic
attitude towards learning.
Darcie has been gaining knowledge in all aspects of general dentistry and patient
care. She has been able to adapt quickly to working in a surgery setting and has
made friends with the team through her fun and confident personality.
Darcie is a very efficient dental nurse and does her best to always make sure the
patient is comfortable and well looked after.
Favourite thing about dentistry – Dental Examinations. Darcie enjoys getting time to
speak to patients and find out about their lives.
Hobbies outside of work – Shopping, Socialising with friends.
Dental Nurses
All of our dental nurses are fully qualified or on an approved training course. The nursing team are responsible for assisting in your dental care, decontamination of the instruments as well as taking on reception duties.
Regulation of the Dental Team
All Dental Professionals are registered with and regulated by the General Dental Council.
There are nine principles registered dental professionals must keep to at all times.
As a GDC registrant you must:
- Put patients’ interests first
- Communicate effectively with patients
- Obtain valid consent
- Maintain and protect patients’ information
- Have a clear and effective complaints procedure
- Work with colleagues in a way that is in patients’ best interests
- Maintain, develop and work within your professional knowledge and skills
- Raise concerns if patients are at risk
- Make sure your personal behaviour maintains patients’ confidence in you and the dental profession
